I assume that the part where my thumb comes together with my palm (that lump) keeps gliding over it and thus making it ring too much. I've tried to position my palm so that It's actualy ...

My question is this. When I program a bassline I usually pitch it exactly one octave below the melody. So If I write a melody with notes between C3 to C4 on the keyboard I will program the bass between C2 to C3.

I am working on a new song at the moment and ...

When I learned to strum with my fingers, I learned to mute the other strings with my other fingers on my strumming hand. I have recently started playing with a pick, and I was wondering how do you mute strings when you are using a pick? I suppose in a slower song you could use your fretting hand to mute strings, but what about in a fast song where your fretting hand has to be elsewhere (like on frets)? How would you mute strings then? Thanks!

Just got my first bass 3-4 days ago and I'm having a hard time finding a good sound; I get alot of disturbance etc.

So I was wondering: should the strings be loose or tight? My tuner says either way so, I don't feel I can trust it, hence I go to you guys!

Any answer similar to the topic is fine.

Helo,

being a forty something complete beginner please excuse my perhaps inane question.Having recently purchased a basic Bass pack I'm enjoying the challenge of learning to play the instrument via your very good on-line site.My question is when practising finger walking on the strings is it the pads of the fingers only which come in to play as I seem to be catching my nails on the strings quite often ,giving a somewhat tinnier quality to the note compared to the pad,or does it matter? ...

Dman, guys and galls.

just a quick query to throw out to you all (very similar to the broken fingers post)

i have been playing bass on and off for around 5 years i'm not that good but like making noise!!! but since getting back into it i broke the knuckle on my left hand and the movement is limited in my pinky.

i struggled on some of the longer stretches before but now is a nightmare! and my speed around the fretboard is suffering.

would it be worth me trying a short scale ...

Your lessons are VERY helpful and I thank you for taking time to do these videos to help me and many others!

My question is if you could make a video going "deeper" into the use of a pick.

As you talked about in your "Should I Use a Pick?" video, I would be really glad if you developed those ideas and made another good video.

I kind of feel stuck in the middle of the easy stuff and the hard stuff. I can't quite get my fingers to move fast enough for harder things. How can I improve my playing skills, without a teacher. I don't really have the time or money for a bass teacher to teach me harder stuff right now.
