This is a question to anyone that has experience in bass cabs.

If you play a five string bass (with the lowest string being 30hz) through a cab with a frequency response of 60hz-15khz, would you be able to hear the b-string?

also ask any questions about amps, cabs, combos or whatever here as i havent seen any other topic (pls tell me if i have missed it)

Alright, i just started playing bass yesterday, and i managed to find my way here. Anyway, i've been meaning to pick it up for a while without ever getting to the point of buying one.

So i was at my uncles' place and we were talking about music and i ended up asking him if he known anyone who could sell a second hand bass that won't break. He used to record music for a living, so i was thinking he would be able to find something better then i could. He said he'd look, and it turned out that ...

I've just gotten my very first bastard blister. At least I think it's a blister. All tingly when you press down on it, like a needle scraping across your skin.

Anyway, the point is it's surfaced at a very bad time. Tomorrow a few friends and I will be practicing for a performance on Thursday which apparently counts toward our A levels (we're doing seven nation army, cheers dman for giving me a headstart ). So I absolutely have to do it, and I don't want to be gritting my teeth and missing ...

It's been a nightmare.

I won't go into it, but that's where all my time has gone, hence no new lessons. I'm very nearly done now though, so it should all be back to normal soon.

Has anyone tried it? I heard it works better than boiling them because it doesn't rust them since there's no water in the solution. The guy who told me said to let them sit in the alcohol for 12-24 hours and then just wipe them off. They should be good as new. I'm going to try it pretty soon since my strings are pretty bad. But just wondering if anyone has tried it before.

Just bought myself a set of Rotosound flatwound strings to try... Going to put them on my Precision bass first, then move them on to my acoustic to give them a try. Anyone else used flatwound strings before?

To those not in the know: 'Standard' strings are generally roundwound, which means that the wrap around the core wire is a round shape. Flatwound means that the outer wrap is flattened, and is generally considered to give the bass a more upright bass sound. For more information, see ...

Pedals!!!

Hey there, I'm wondering what kind of pedal brands I should avoid. I've never really used pedals before. I've got an old Digitech guitar distortion pedal, but it doesn't sound the greatest on my bass. I was thinking of maybe getting a bass overdrive pedal or a chorus pedal, or maybe a flanger pedal. I'm really not sure lol. Never tried them. I noticed there is some Ibanez pedals fairly cheap. So which brands should I avoid?
