Well, I'm not Dman but I've been there. Either try to find a band, unless you already have one. Try playing some songs you know in a completely different way...or what I did - experiment with the differents mehtods of producing sound. Learn slap and pop, tapping, try playing classical acoustic style etc. After you are able to play all the songs you want it's time to experiment and start crafting your own style, something that defines you.
Perhaps experiment with effect pedals too, unless you've done that.
In short, start testing the limits of the bass as an instrument instead of your own.
Or you could go another way and expand yourself musically by writting full songs.

If you're looking to improve your own playing then look into new techniques. Slapping and tapping is fun to play around with.
I don't really know at what level you are so I have no idea what to suggest, but I'll try something.
First off, if you play with your fingers and are looking for a challange try Genghis Khan by Iron Maiden without open strings
Secondly, I don't know if you've seen any of these vids as I've posted them before, but these vids saved me when I got stuck in progress. This is what I meant by testing the limits of what you can do on a bass:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rgCDfDxe1k - My favourite Ryan vid (I know they focus on his head, but just study his right hand throughout the video) If you like it, check out his lines. He really evolved the bass metal wise.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRv002sWaKE - Same guy, different song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py3jT0uaZw0 - Stanley Clarke. He uses an upright in this video, but all of this is very possible on an electric as well. It's also one of the most original piece of playing I've ever seen.
