I keep coming back and listening to this; if only the drums sounded a little better I'd think nothing of laying down a tenner for a full album of stuff like this.

edit: mind you, I've no idea how alone I am with that thought Razz

It's a real groovy track though, if Bootsy were to make a tribute to Herbie Hancock It'd quite probably sound something like this.

If I may be so bold as too supply a bit of criticism on that Space Rasta thing:

First, I loved the sound! It's awesome Very Happy Also you have some brilliant lines there.

What you're missing is a good hook. I realize you have one that comes in at 1:10, but that's far too much into the song for the common listener, since it's only a 3 and a half minute song.

Also, you have much better hook material at 0:43. I love that part so much and when I first hear it I want it to be repeated. You vary it a lot and move away from it, only to come back to something similar at 0:57. I feel that if that part was simplified and repeated it would give me something to grab onto. It would be a fantastic chorus Smile

Just noticed now that around the beginning you do have that same hook from 1:10, but for some reason it's not so obvious.

The above was written during the first listen, now that I've heard it a few times I can say this: It seems that you improvise or vary the lines too much and that leaves the listeners without anything to actually grab onto. You need at least one very prominent and solid line that you always come back to. Even in jazz (good jazz), which is always constant improvisation, they always have one very solid line they come back to and it's always obvious. Yours is a little too discreet Smile

Fact is, that this actually promises to be one amazing song! It's just missing a few details here and there.

I see what you're getting at, and truth is, apart from the deep rhythm bass line and the chorded part, it's all improv. I think what you're trying to say (or at least what I interpreted) is that I come back to the wrong parts. I've had this thought before and I may revise it. Though I'm more likely to scrap it completely and start over. I appreciate your input.

Surprised

I'm really loving this one Smile
It makes me feel like I'm floating. It relaxes my soul. It has a positive vibe. It is art...

Question: You put down two bass tracks here right? One for the groove and one for the melody if I heard it right?
The only thing I might suggest is playing around with the EQ and levels a bit to clarify the overall sound. Maybe put the drums a little in the back and bring the bass forward? Perhaps EQ the two tracks differently so that they don't collide?
It's a question of mastering though, which is a whole new science. Hence why we have professional sound engineers Smile

The following is purely an aesthetic (I think that's the right word) suggestion. Since I sense a kind of verse/chorus relation here with this second bass track doing the melody (lyrics), I would change it around the second time to give it more variety and maaaaaaybe add a break part. That's just personal opinion though.

Attention Akyra: Please post a vid yourself so I can criti...I mean study your technique Twisted Evil
Just kidding, I'd actually like to see something more recent. I feel kind of bad for posting criticism related to an outdated vid Crying or Very sad

I also love it. Again, my only problem with it is the drums. Just don't like the sound of them, especially the hi-hat. If it were exactly the same but recorded by a real drummer I'd have no problems with it whatsoever.

The drums scream digitised. Maybe instead of a real drummer, a better drum VST is enough?
However, digitised drums are not uncommon today, so maybe he prefers it that way.

I don't mind when drums are digital, I just don't like noticing that they're digital. Damian Marley's second and third albums both had digital drums, I think, but I didn't really notice.

I am proud of this one, but my system bogs down if I ask to much of it. I'm not using this as an excuse for the mix quality, but I can't run fruity loops properly to make quality drum tracks. The high hat is way to loud in retrospect. I'm still working on song structure and sometimes I get impatient and rush through things. If I ever put this stuff on an album it will all receive a mass overhaul in regards to quality. I do take everything you guys say into consideration which makes each one better and better, and I appreciate it.

Yeah, it's Dig by Mudvayne played on my dream bass at the Cologne Music Store...the bass actually costs about 1700 euros. Hence it's just a dream, but I lived it! Very Happy

You all remember Andy Saxton? Well here's a cover of EOTT, composed by him.

This one didn't turn out quite like I hoped Sad
I have a very low quality webcam, but a high quality recording device. So I recorded the two seperately, tried to sync it as best as I can, but somehow it still feels fake. Let me know if it's at least believable.

I used a chorus pedal to get that sound.
