Difference between modelling and solid state bass combos?
WHat's the difference?

A solid state would use typical fully analogue electronic components in its preamplification signal stage.
Whereas the modeling type amplifier would have some digital sound processing (DSP) chips in its signal path.
Digital components often sound thin due to sampling rates and quality of the DSP chips. I could bore you to death with a long essay about electronic components but i wont .

Solid State is fully analogue????
I did not know that.

The term "Solid State" came about at the end of the vacuum tube (valves) era, when germanium and silicon transistors began to be widely used in the manufacture of elecronic equipment. As time went on circuitry that involved the use of large amounts of transistors was slowly phased out by the used of silicon based integrated circuits (IC's or chips) which allowed for more or less a whole circuit to be fitted in a small package allowing for a smaller component count and a more cost effective manufacturing process.
Circuits that use DSP's are still in a way solid state as the chips are still made of silicon but the way that signal both input and output are process by means of analog to digital processing - then the digital signal is processed internally inside the DSP and then turned back into analogue for us humans to audibly understand the changes between the signal we put in and the signal that comes out.
