pickslides?

Post  zsquad on Fri Apr 16, 2010 9:23 pm

i've always been a fan of pickslides on electric guitar, but when I try to do them on bass it sounds like crap. how do you do a pickslide on bass? are there any songs that even use pickslides on bass?

i think the only reason why it sounds good on guitar is because of distortion
also try and pickslide on the g and d string rather than on the e

Yup it's the distortion that does it - and also the context too, it's normally for dramatic effect on the guitar, maybe a build up for a big powerchord or a massive widdling session etc.

I'd find it hard to fit it into context on the bass but then I don't use distortion or loads of overdrive (if at all) either.

The other thing to remember is the tone of the effect is created by the fine windings on guitar strings rather than the coarser ones on bass strings and the difficulty of picksliding across several strings on a bass must spoil the effect a bit too.
