over winded
yesterday, just before a gig,i tuned my bass up.Untill i made it up to the G string. So im winding it,and just a tad before i get the right sound, the winder makes a snap.from that moment after, the string drops tune half way.every time i try to wind it,it goes up a bit and then makes another snap sound.
Help?

Re: over winded
yeah i had that problem on my first bass
the tuning peg is broken and you will need a new one
they are really easy to take of and put back on so you can just order one from the internet and then put it on

Re: over winded
its really easy
Take you string off (obviously)
If u have a look at the back of the head there is a litttle screw next to the tuning head.
Unscrew that.
then at the front there should be a size 16/17/18 nut im not to sure.
Undo that nut and then the tuning head should pop straight out
To put the new one on just put it into the hole.
Then put in the small screw
And then tighten the nut again
All tuning mechanisms should work like that in principal although they might differ slightly in the detail

Re: over winded
Mine has four screws in the back and a sleeve that fits into the hole in the wood. Still very simple.

Re: over winded
yeah same kind of idea tho
make sure u buy a replacement tuning peg that is the same brand and model as the one thats on your bass
otherwise u may have a problem

Re: over winded
take a picture of the back of your head and ill tell u XD
theres only 2/3 types of tuning peg that are usually used
Theres the ones that are typically on a fender bass
the ace of spades ones and i cant think of any others
