Re: Playing by Ear?
Do easier songs first. Also take your time and really try to concentrate on each note

Re: Playing by Ear?
Driver A by Buju Banton. It's the first one I did and it's really easy. Even if you don't like the music, give it a shot.

Dunno why, but Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny came to mind. It's simple and fun

Re: Playing by Ear?
I tried it with The Who's Boris the Spider & got the main riff quite easily.

Re: Playing by Ear?
how have you learnt most things on the bass like techniques? Repetition!
Take easy songs to start off with and make sure you work them out. It will take a while, and will seem annoying to start if your not getting it, but it will come with practice.
I suggest avoiding metal to start of with, learn things where the bass really sticks out. Try another one bites the dust, sweet home alabama etc. Songs where the bassline isn't particularly challenging.

along the same line as Another One Bites the Dust, how about Under Pressure, that main riff is quite easy to get, I think

Re: Playing by Ear?
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl is a relatively easy bassline and pretty easy to figure out. There's some files in there that will confuse, but I trust you'll come out okay.
