As someone who has never been a member of a band I would strongly advise to grab to opportunity.
From what I have heard there's no better way to get better than to play together with people, It's probably a lot of fun too.

i wouldnt worry too much if you cant get everyone together at the beginning
if its just u and drums its cool
if its just u and guitar its cool
just vocals and bass might be tricky but it would definatly be cool

and even if the band only lasts a month its valuable experience

if i do ever get a band i was thinking of having bass (obvously), guitar, drums, vocals, and possibly keyboard depending on what type of music we play. I do know a pianist/keyboard-ist whos been playing since he was like 6 though and hes really good.

I wouldn't really worry about the Vocalist, A lot of great bands started out as Instrumental-only groups.

Ya ive heard a couple instrument-only bands, most of them are pretty good but the music feels "empty" if you know what i mean but i still like it. Thanks for the advice everybody!

Sometimes some members can be substituted for machines if you're struggling to find people to play with. My band, for example, consists of singer/guitarist, guitarist and me. We have a drum machine and a synthesiser controlled by a computer and it works great

Try and get together as many like-minded musicians you can and see what you have to work with. Also the only problem with instrumental bands is that you have to try and make it interesting for the audience. You need some good melodies to make up for the lack of vocal melody

But whatever happens definitely do it, being in a band is great fun Very Happy

Do it! You learn alot and its really fun too. Try to use your time wisely (dont let the guitarist sit in a corner and shred Razz )
Even a two man band would be a great experience for someone who has just started.

Now get out there and form a band! Twisted Evil

damn, I really should start making work of getting in a band myself, though that'll have to wait for a bit because my predestined Guitarist won't have access to an Electric Guitar till his birthday.

just get together what people you can for now even if its just a guitarist and then worry about everyone else later

its gonna be easier finding other people if u say BAND LOOKING FOR DRUMMER
rather than BASS PLAYER LOOKING FOR EVERYONE ELSE

i by the way am being the biggest hypocrit in the world while im telling you this so dont worry

If you can at least jam with some people, it would be worth it. If possible, try to find people that are more skilled than you. That will create some motivation to get better faster, and you can learn a thing or two from a guitar riff or drum beat. That's the beauty of the bass guitar.

Forming a band as a beginner can be difficult. (not calling you a beginner, but generally speaking) If you want to form a serious band, be prepared to deal with a lot of drama. As a rule of thumb, I tell a band when I join that I won't be putting up with a bunch of in-fighting and high school nonsense. Just music. Keeping everyone on point seems to be a problem, too. Especially if your dealing with amateurs. Everyone will want to show off to establish their status as "alpha". It is good to bounce riffs and ideas off of each other, but sometimes the wankery can get out of hand quickly. Hope this was helpful.

Thanks it was helpful and i would call me a begginer too ive only been playing around 5 months. And i probably wont be starting the band for another month or so, i wanted to start jamming with a drummer first so i could get experiance with playing with other people before i start a band.

That's what I do right now. I just jam with a drummer constantly. I find it works on my timing and it helps me play better melodies. So jam it up and have fun.

You said something about knowing there are a lot of drummers but not knowing who,
well when I was starting my first band in school I asked our music department if I could put up a few flyers
it took around 3-4 weeks but in the end I had whole band together and if your school does lessons ask the instrument
teachers to tell their students about you.

I forgot another thing I did was go to all the local Music stores and Local CD stores and ask them to put up a flyer or some details and ask the salesmen' at your Music shops ( I think you guys have guitar centre ? out here we have small local stores :/ ) as them to tell people your age about you and also to put up a flyer or two!

If you want to find a Band member get into the Mind of the Band member!

Smaz, Dan, and I have some experience in this. It's not all hard. I think this deserves a visit to the Suggestion section.
