Re: new bass
The Sterling Ray34 is an excellent bass! I've played one and they sound almost exactly like a real Stingray, and feels great to play. You definitely won't be disappointed with that bass. Limited edition silver seems cool too
As for an amp... Well, you know what I'm going to say... used Peavey FTW

I'm with max, although im still only a beginner myself, but what i do know is that the bass Davidsinrocks is using in that vid, is a Fleabass, designed by flea. and i believe that is the punk style if my memory serves correct

i hope it is still in store by then :O limited edition.... hmm better be so

I am pretty sure a Bass like that is suitable for fingerstyle playin as much as it is for slapping
And the best way to get better at Slapping is just practice ofcourse

Re: new bass
Any bass can be used for any style. For example, some people say you can't slap on a Rickenbacker. I did Sounded and felt alright too. The only thing that the Ray34 might not be suitable for is maybe genres that require a more mellow tone, as Stingrays tend to have a pretty punchy tone, but this can be sorted to an extent with EQ
