Re: completely new to bass
if you mean your bass is untuned? If so, you can either buy an electronic tuner or go to dmans lesson site and on the homepage he has something he calls to tune-o-matic (i think thats what its called).

Re: completely new to bass
well i know in dmans vids, his bass seems to have a different tones in alot of his videos. I dont know but its either his bass, his amp, or his amp settings.
Summary: As long as your playing the same note, tone doesnt matter. (unless your bass is untuned)

Re: completely new to bass
Yeah, David is absolutely right, don't try to worry about getting Dman's tone. Everyone's gear is different and if it all sounded the same what fun would that be?
If you're talking about the notes sounding out of tune, you'll need to retune it. Electronic tuners are cheap. It's impossible to stop your bass from going out of tune!
Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum!

Re: completely new to bass
For some reason, lately my bass goes sharper rather than flatter when it goes out of tune.

Re: completely new to bass
Probably because the neck is bending and flattening out a bit due to the temperature/climate, which stretches the strings
