completely new to bass Empty completely new to bass

so ive had a bass quitar for about 7 years that my old step dad gave to me. its been sitting here and id like to be able to play it, but obviously i dont know how. i tried the teach yourself books and didnt think i was doing it right. and i started your lessons but i think the sound of my bass is off? idk. Sad

if you mean your bass is untuned? If so, you can either buy an electronic tuner or go to dmans lesson site and on the homepage he has something he calls to tune-o-matic (i think thats what its called).

well i had it cleaned up and everything not too long ago and they tuned it as well, but it doesnt sound the same? should it?

well i know in dmans vids, his bass seems to have a different tones in alot of his videos. I dont know but its either his bass, his amp, or his amp settings.

Summary: As long as your playing the same note, tone doesnt matter. (unless your bass is untuned)

Yeah, David is absolutely right, don't try to worry about getting Dman's tone. Everyone's gear is different and if it all sounded the same what fun would that be?

If you're talking about the notes sounding out of tune, you'll need to retune it. Electronic tuners are cheap. It's impossible to stop your bass from going out of tune!

For some reason, lately my bass goes sharper rather than flatter when it goes out of tune.

Probably because the neck is bending and flattening out a bit due to the temperature/climate, which stretches the strings
