hi i do a sort of jam in my mates gig that has a open jam but play by my self next time im playing enter sand man with a load of mates, are there any rules to jamming ?

Don't overrun the other instruments. I have played some bass/guitar/piano-jams, and we always have that as a rule. If the other instruments calm down and give you the spotlight, it's solo time. Other than that, stay on beat, interact with the drums, pay attention to the other instruments and follow them when they start going into variations of whatever they're playing. If you think you've been looping something for too long you should improvise a variation to keep the flow going.

Also, NEVER forget to have fun.

if they play a song you dont now as when some get up they play songs, do you copy the beat of the drumer to be saft and try to mach the feel and sound of the song
