Puppies
Does anyone know any companies that make pickups?
I already checked out EMG, Seymor Duncan, Di Marzio and Bartolini.
Im looking for maybe splitable humbuckers if any company makes those things

Re: Puppies
Wizard Pickups (UK Based) you can get pups made to your specification., http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/
Kent Armstrong are good.
I like EMG's.
What type of pickup are you looking for (Jazz, P-Bass,Musicman style)?
And by splitable I assume you mean the ability to have parallel/series/single coil configuration? If thats the case just look for pickups with four wires (5 if active) instead of 2

Re: Puppies
They look like soapbar shaped pickups, are they a regular size?
I heard a reggae band called Midnite while I was in Sweden the other day, he was playing an Ibanez like yours....man the sound from that thing was heavy deep and thick.
Have a look inside the electronics cavity at the pickup wires and see how many wires each pickup has. If its 4 you can then add some toggle switches for parallel/series/single coil.

Re: Puppies
Allparts, Axesrus, Ebay
Why do you feel the need to change the pickups? are you looking for a certain tone?

Re: Puppies
The bridge pickup is perfectly fine
I just much prefer a single coil sound at the neck
a humbucker just gives no high end response... well this one dont anyways
It was just a consideration anyways, if its gonna be quite expensive i might as well just buy a new bass with single coils

Re: Puppies
If you dont want to spend too much on another bass try a secondhand mexican jazz bass they go for between £200-275.
But be warned, with the single coil sound you also get single coil hum

Re: Puppies
Yeh thats the thing
If the pickups and switches and stuff end up costing like £200 then there is really no point.
I can live with the hum

Re: Puppies
There are always plenty of used pickup on Ebay, some with all the wiring and pots and switches.
The good thing about used basses is that most people have had them setup at some point and often have done worthwhile mods to them and 9 times out of ten you get a good case to go with them.
I got a mexician Jazz bass with an ABS hard case, Noiseless pickups, Audere preamp, thomastik infeld strings, and a Gotoh bridge for £275
Jass bass £519 (new prices)
Pickups £100
Audere £120
Strings £ 37
Bridge £ 40
Hard Case £ 60
Total £876 quite a good saving

Re: Puppies
Yeah i was thinking of a HS combo but the only ones i could find were like £1500 Sandberg basses.
Ill wait till that british pickup company writes back and then ill decide.

Re: Puppies
There seems to be lots of positive talk over on Talkbass about wizard pickups. I think you can even send your pickup to him and get to re-wired to your own specification

Re: Puppies
yeah got it today
they say i need to measure my pickups "more precisely"
might just call them tomorow to see if they can just rewire my pickups
be so much easier and probably cheaper
