As a beginner, I was wondering if its different with other scaled basses like short or medium basses. my bass is a short scale.
How do I tune with it?
The 5th fret method is very cool. I also do have an acoustic bass and I carry a tuning fork.

thank you for your answer, would be really appreciated

Greetings from Central Europe

5th fret tuning is universal to basses and guitars of any scale.

Using an electric tuner is the easiest option. I'd opt for a chromatic one, like this one http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/068311/details.html?kbid=1582

edit: sorry, didn't really read the whole thing properly Razz Yes, the 5th fret method is the same for everything, as DTL said. Using a tuner is still the easiest method though Razz

Hi

Thanks for you answers, guys Smile

I'm using a Korg chromatic tuner.
there one problem: you need batteries and you do have to connect your bass with it. When playing acoustic it's more complicated to do so (it's an electro-acoustic bass)

other method: tune after a guitar

I have a Korg tuner as well but mine has a microphone so you don't have to connect it up. The microphone is rubbish for electric basses though... I imagine with acoustic basses it'd be a bit better.

BTW some things you've got to make sure of with the 5th fret method are that you've got the first note right (usually the E) and that your intonation is as spot-on as it can possibly be. Otherwise it still won't sound right.

I got a Korg GA30 (the same you posted but older and in blue color)

Yeah, that's right. an old method I learned from a friend from Germany is to grab your telephone. the sound is the note A
the problem is: when the phones were analog, it was ok (440Hz), now digital, the frequency is not 440Hz (it's higher). So my friend tuned a little to high.
