Funk artists

So it doesn't seem like nowadays you ever hear anyone talking about funk. But there has to be SOME people that listen to it. And as bassists I'm sure we all enjoy it. I've never actually listened to it more than one song at a time though. So what are some of y'all's favorite funk artists? I need some to listen to.

I went to a pub last night, that ONLY plays funk. Really cool place!

Ok, try Sly and the family stone.

Funkadelic, Parliment.

Tower of power, definatly.

Old school chili peppers.

The meters.

Problem is with the bands above, is that they all have awesome tunes, and awesome funk tunes, but there is also a lot of schlap (new word to describe crap music) that also goes along with it...

Gimmie a shout if you want song names!

The only funk album I have is Sly & The Family Stone's Fresh. I didn't really like it much when I got it (save from If You Want Me To Stay and If It Were Left Up To Me) but it's grown on me since then. Kind of an acquired taste for me.

I really like the whole P-funk thing. Spotify's got a sizeable collection of Funkadelic songs.

Don't listen to much funk either. Funkmetal is a whole different story, sinds that was played by the Peppers in their early days and I've listened to them since I was 9 or so. Razz

Also, does Jamiroquai count? Their basslines sure are funky as hell.

Whoa thanks for the replies, that's plenty of bands to keep me entertained for a while! Very Happy I'll be sure to checkout/download all of them. So far Funkadelic sounds pretty awesome.

Also, Dman, I like that word schlap and will be using it all the time now.
