Fingers locking in place
Has anyone had any problems with this? On your fretting hand on the main joint (the one not right at the top) during a certain chord position it has to be straight and it feels like it locks in the straight position and it hurts pretty bad?
It happens on my ring finger when I try to hold a uhh chord like this:
G-8
D-9
A-10
and get's even worse when I try a chord like this:
G-9
D-9
A-10
Sorry for bad pics, it's from my phone.
Bent finger but not really pressing down:
When I press down and hold down:

No... I can't even make my finger do that. How close is your palm to the neck? When I do a chord like that, my palm's basically hugging it.

I have a student who has exactly the same problem as this!
I gave hr a few warm-up exercises to do before starting play, and told her to change her technique slightly until she is comfortable.
How's that worked out, bud?
(Oh, and do the hand and tendon exercises)

How I do the 10-9-8-chord. My palm is nowhere near the neck, my thumb is the only "support" or what you'd call it. My fingers are just slightly bent to make sure they don't mute the other strings.

How I do do the 10-9-9-chord. My index finger is on the 9th fret of the A, D and G strings, and I arch my middle finger just a little bit to hit the 10th fret of the A string.

I try to always do the exercises or at least stretch my fingers. I don't think that had much to do with it.
Yeah I think the problem was all in my palm. My thumb was near the bottom of the neck and my palm was wayyyy out there. Moving it closer helped a lot.
