~MAJOR AND MINOR BASS SCALES TABS~
OK I was trying long time ago to find the major and minor scales on their standard mode.
I found them, I share them.
If anyone has complete triads or pentatonics before I update this post feel free to help the n00bs.

Re: ~MAJOR AND MINOR BASS SCALES TABS~
I think the general pattern is more appropiate, so you don't have to learn all those different notes. Here are the fretboard diagrams.
Major scale, one octave:
|---|---|---|---|---|
|-6-|---|-7-|-R-|---|
|-3-|-4-|---|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|-2-|---|
Minor scale, one octave:
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-7-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-4-|---|-5-|-6-|
|---|-R-|---|-2-|-3-|
To create a major pentatonic scale, you remove the 4th and the 7th from the major scale with the same root:
|---|---|---|---|---|
|-6-|---|---|-R-|---|
|-3-|---|---|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|-2-|---|
To create a minor pentatonic scale, you remove the 2nd and the 6th note from the minor scale with the same root:
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-7-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-4-|---|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|---|-3-|
We could go into modes, but I find them rather boring, to be honest, and there's already a writeup on that.

I know, I dont want to have theory here, just hints and tabs and patterns to remember scales without lots of blah blah ^^ Thanks for contributing!

Blues scale: Take the minor pentatonic scale...
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-7-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-4-|---|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|---|-3-|
And give it another note.
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-6-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-3-|-4-|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|---|-2-|
I think
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-7-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-4-|---|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|---|-3-|
And give it another note.
|---|---|---|---|---|
|---|-6-|---|-R-|---|
|---|-3-|-4-|-5-|---|
|---|-R-|---|---|-2-|
I think

Almost like that. It is a flat fifth, but there's already a fifth, so I just call it 'B' (from blues). Also, the number 3 should be 4, since it's a fourth.Pippynip wrote:Blues scale: Take the minor pentatonic scale...

This is a good way of expanding your knowledge through the neck/fretboard.
Download the pdf, print it and notate the notes if you have difficulties reading the sheet.
Tell me what you think, and if I have something wrong please feel free to say it!

Ah, so should the 2 be a 3 as well? What about the 6?

I was actually thinking of tabbing out modes to make it easier for people to get their head around. I think the fancy names confuse people but in reality they are just patterns to move yourself around the neck. Thats how I treat them, I dont think of the fancy name when Im playing them. Once you know the patterns fitting them together becomes easy.

Yes I agree. The only problem for me is to remember the notes at first, but ok I think practice will do.

Re: ~MAJOR AND MINOR BASS SCALES TABS~
I'm at the stage where I know all the patterns (except Locrian and Phrygian) but I can't change between them on the fly. It's easiest to change from major and from minor, if I'm changing from anything else I have to really think about it for a few seconds

I don't like the fancy names either, but sometimes people just start talking and you have to keep up...

Re: ~MAJOR AND MINOR BASS SCALES TABS~
You can ask me to play a dorian pattern and I wouldn't be able to play it. I'm doing fine, though.MetalJacob wrote:Is learning the modes patterns necessary?

MetalJacob wrote:Is learning the modes patterns necessary?
not necessary, but it cant hurt
EDIT: Just to add, dont think of it as learning a whole heap of scales, your only learning seven. The pattern remains the same through each key. When I started learning scale modes I stuck to the G Major scale and just practiced it to death, I played around with them for months until my hands knew exactly where to go without thinking about it. Because of that I can now apply that pattern to any key. I've been busy this week but I'm going to tab out the exact routine I came up with to help myself learn scale patterns, I think it may help people out.
