Action goes down by itself

Post  Pippynip on Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:27 pm

The G string keeps lowering itself for some reason. What could that reason be? Is there a problem with my bridge? This is only the second time it's happened, and the first time was a couple of weeks ago, but it's still kinda odd.

Is it the two screws on the saddle that keep adjusting? I have that problem myself with my Jazz bass, but pretty much all strings Sad I haven't really found a solution yet...

A very small drop of clear nail polish usually does the trick

I'll take your word for it... Razz Where do I put it? In the screwy bit, the bit I put the allen key in?

Set your string height to your personal preference then apply a minute amount of nail polish on the outer edge of the screw allowing it to make contact with the bridge saddle. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH.

The object is to provide a seal between the thread on the outside of the grub screw and the thread on the inside of the bridge saddle.

I usually take a small nail or a pin, dip it into the nail polish and apply it to the gap between the two screw threads. Avoid brushing lots of nail polish around your bridge - 1. It will look terrible, 2 - You may not be able to adjust it again afterwards.

You only need to make a seal around the top of the screw area

You could also use a product called thread locker.

Hope this makes sense

You could also try that white sealant tape used in auto maintenance. Yes it's used for leaks and stuff like that but im sure if you go around twice it would stick fine.
