Just doesnt cut it

Post  DavidM96 on Fri Jan 13, 2012 12:15 am

The farther I get away from my amp, the less bass I get. All that I hear is treble when I'm about 10 ft or so from my amp, which will be a problem when the band I'm currently in has a show. Is there a way I can fix this or is it my amp?

I don't understand... I didn't know that could happen. Could it be the lead?

The lead? Could upping the bass/volume help?

I mean the cable. Is 'lead' used in Americaland?

How big is the amp? Actually...how big is the speaker?
Unless it's a nice 15-inch, you probably won't get much bass at a distance. It should also have a decent sized cabinet, otherwise the bass quickly gets lost.

Yes but not frequently

I believe my amp does have a 15 inch speaker, and a decent sized cabinet.

Ok...second step. What's the enviroment, how high do you set the volume, how much bass do you have on the eq?
Lets say that even a 100W amp in a completely open enviroment (outside) won't get you very far. That's why they put a mics on it and plug into a whole sound system.
The high frequencies cut through everything, but the lows tend to get lost.

I keep my volume at a moderate level because I'm in my room. I raise the volume at band practices though. As for the EQ, on my amp the bass is at 8 and on my Driver pedal its a little past halfway on the dial because if I put on too much bass my amp starts to distort the lower notes. Then I blend the two signals so the the driver overpowers the amp slightly. Oh and my amp is a 70 watt I believe.

At this point I'm afraid I can no longer help at a distance :S I'd have to experiment and hear it...sorry

Well, in gigs, I reckon you could have your bass going through the PA as well. I doubt 70 watts is enough anyhow, though it probably depends on the gig.

You're going to want a 100+ watt for monitoring, plus running the bass through the PA for everyone else to hear.

I use a 100 watt amp for monitoring, and use the Balanced Output from it into the PA, and it's splendid.
