Precision vs. Jazz
I'm currently playing a Fender Jazz Mexican Bass, enjoy it quite a bit actually, but I don't get the difference between these two commonly talked about makes.
I've done some research on it, only to find little tidbits of information.
For example, something about the P Bass having a thicker neck and more spaced strings than the J Bass.
Haven't found a definitive answer yet though.
Any information is greatly appreciated!

You won't find a more definitive answer..
I have both basses!
The Jazz bass has a thin neck, with the strings therefore being relatively close together. The two pickups give it a variety of sounds.
The Precision bass has a much wider neck, which is great for grabbing hold of & hammering. It has one pickup, which can make it a 'one trick pony' as far as sound are concerned.... But the P-bass sound is AWESOME.
Best thing is, give one a try if you can!

Thank you!
That basically clears it up for me
I guess the last thing is, is the difference between the two quite noticeable?
I really should check one out at a music store or something...

Worth noting also that you can get "pretty" close to a P-bass sound if you turn down your bridge pick-up fully on a jazz. Of course its not exactly the same but just worth a thought.

If you want to mess around with bass sounds, then a P bass is not for you, it is as someone already said, very much a one trick pony, it does that one trick however, better than any other bass, for warmth and depth on a full round deep bass sound you can't beat them.
