Anyone ever played one? If so, what are your experiences?

Tried some at the store on monday. A few were smaller then normal, but I dunno if thats the norm for acoustics. They sounded alright. Not overly impressive though, maybe cause I had a bit of hype about them.. Theyre all semi acoustic, too. [Can be plugged into an amp] Cause they cant be heard that easily if you were to be playing loudly, eg, in front of a group etc. But theyre loud enough for personal practice.

There was a fretless acoustic there.

And I still day dream about its beauuttyyy <3

It was great, really. Ive never had so much fun with such a great sounding instrument!

It was perfect, it really was.

But I shouldnt get a fretless while so inexperienced with the fretted bass. Mightnt be good for the learning.

can't say im impressed by any of the ones i've played, unless you are paying big money for a good one i think there more of a novelty factor.

BTW i also got to play quite a few as i was working in a music shop for a week so i did give them a decent test.

Played a few in music shops, didn't think they were worth the price tbh. Tried a upright bass while I was there, that was a lot of fun. Only thing I could manage to play was blues progressions, all dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum. Good laugh though

I own an Ibanez aeb10. It's very convenient when the power's out. I play it on certain songs when I want to get an upright-like sound. All in all, I really love it.

I actually just purchased one. I got the aeb10 as well, I really like it too. I have noticed tho, if you are playing with a guitarist that is playing acoustic, you might want to amp your acoustic bass because it gets difficult to hear if the guy (or girl) playing guitar feels like jamming out real hard. Thats just my opinion, I also play really soft too soo that might be a factor as well.

Flicking through my magazine earlier, I spotted the Warwick Alien acoustic bass...

I'd have one tomorrow, if it weren't for the £1,300 price tag Sad

I don't have one but I have a friend who does. He goes camping and on fishing trips and such a lot and he says it's awesome for that since he can actually hear himself play without any electricity.

And dont let a salesman talk you out of an acoustic bass for that reason.
Just cause you cant always be heard [wow, life of a bassist in a few words *tear*] doesnt mean anything, while you think yorue paying 'more' for an acoustic, youre also paying 'more' for hardware in a solidbody, so theres not much difference except you can play, hear yourself, others can hear and you wont annoy anyone cause those powerful rumbles from the amp wont wake your parents at 4am Razz
plus. That fretless bass I tried <3
I will ALWAYS bring that up till I buy it.
