So I want to start recording with my mac using Garageband. I'm not sure of the plus/minus of recording through the mic input vs getting a USB adapter. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with it? Thanks.

mic/line input you get a bit of noise (background static type thing).
I just bought an usb audio interface today so i'll tell you how that goes.
I won't be using garageband by the way as I'm on a windows pc, the interface i got came with a lite edition of ableton live.

Ya so my buddy has a line 6 ux2, he brought it over so I could try it out. For effects and modeling it's pretty nice, but for recording it sounds really bad on bass. Guitar sounds even worse. No this is not a case of user error either. Still haven't tried the mic jack as I cant find a decent cable. Guess I'll just wait on my Korg to arrive.

Yea, I use my Korg with Garageband to record all my solo stuff.

I love it. It's simple but powerful. It's not a patch on Logic/cubase etc, but they are used for professional work. Garageband is perfect for the home user like me...

Literally plug in and play. Wink

I use an amazing USB thing that comes with some AMP/ CAB/ Effects Software really top notch (as long as you read the manual before you do anything) supports MAC and PC

Thanks D'man for introducing me to the pandora, this this is awesome. I have a question for you though. You said you use garageband with it. Do use the instrument monitor on or off, and do you use the feedback protection? (never mind figured this out)

2-14-10. Update: Ok been using it a month and I can say this thing is amazing. The effects and modeling are top notch. The beat patterns are easily customizable, and fun to play with. There are bass loops built in to them, but you can turn them off.
One thing I can recommend if you are using Garage Band 09. Do NOT choose the electric guitar setting if you are using the pandora with effects. GB has it's own effects and modeling in this mode and I couldn't get it to sound right at all. Just use the real instrument setting.
