REGGAE REGGAE BASS
It's so nice I had to play it twice.
*ahem*
Yeah, I'm starting to get into reggae. Y'know, you get into Bob Marley, then you get into the other Marleys, it's a slippery slope from there
Basically I wanted to know if anyone has any experience playing reggae-type bass and can give me a few pointers. And possibly to recommend me some nice reggae to play. Please.

My fav Reggea artist is Peter Tosh, Wouldn't know if the basslines are fun to play though.

Re: REGGAE REGGAE BASS
Learn your pentatonic Scales and major scales as most reggae basslines fall within these scales.
Listen to Bob Marleys music but dont limit yourself to just Bob
Listen to Studio One music as many modern reggae basslines are recreations of basslines made in the 60s - 70s
Music by Black Uhuru is good as all of the basslines were created by Robbie Shakespeare on of reggae's greatest reggae bassists.
Listen to albums by Scientist backed by the Roots Radics band.

Re: REGGAE REGGAE BASS
I know the major scales and the minor scales. I'll get right on the pentatonic business
Yeah, I haven't limited myself to just Bob. In fact I think I listen to Damian Marley more.
Studio One, Black Uhuru, Scientist, Chuck Fenda, Junior Byles, got it. I like all of these, I think my wallet's about to get lighter. Actually I really like that Junior Byles song.
What about technique? Only pointer I know is to pluck on or near the 24th fret. I imagine being loose and relaxed is pretty handy as well. And sound too, what about that? My amp only has high, mid-high, mid-low and low. None of that fancy gain or distortion

Re: REGGAE REGGAE BASS
In terms of sound you want to turn off the highs boost the bass and play with the mids, you want to get rid of the fingernoise. You want thundering lows but without sounding too muddy.
Play as close to the neck as possible if you are playing fingerstyle, thumbpicking with palm muting is also used alot in reggae (Robbie shakespeare)
Fade away is also one of my favorites tunes to play along to thats why i recommended it - Song of the week candidate
Look for live reggae concerts on youtube and watch the bassist.

Re: REGGAE REGGAE BASS
What's played in the chorus of Fade Away? I got F, C#, D# and A# (not sure if the C# is a C though) for the verses. I can't figure out what's going on in the chorus though and it's annoying having to stop there

Re: REGGAE REGGAE BASS
B (on E string) - F(on A string)
then A (on E string) - E (on A string)
then A (on E string) - E (on A string)
