Hey everybody, name's Aric. I've been playing bass for two years, and I seem to have hit a slump for about a week now, but I hope I'll get over it soon. I think part of the problem is my frustration with the bad action on my el cheapo Ibanez SG. It plays fine, but its action is horribly high. I've lowered the saddles as far as possible and it's still about 1/8" at the 12th fret. I really need to take it into a shop and get my truss rod fixed ASAP, the string tension is driving me nuts. )':

Anyway, I would just like to say that this is truly an awesome thing you're doing, Dman. You're very inspiring!

Hi I'm Emmet, from Dublin, Ireland. I've been playing bass for about ten years now, but Ive only really taken it seriously for the past four years or so. I have been trying to make up for the wasted six years of no effort to complete dedication. I am not in a band but I do intend to start or join one at some point. I do produce my own music, which is mostly electronic involving synths, samples and that sort of thing. Although I am working on a song at the moment where all sounds are sourced from my bass, I sample individual notes and process them through the filters in a synthesiser to create new sounds. I came across this forum while searching for slap bass lessons on youtube as this is one technique I've been recently trying to learn. Dmans slap bass vids have proved useful and I came over here to talk to other bass players.

I'm Kirk, been messing with a bass for about 2 months now. I took guitar classes during high school but that was a very long time ago and all of that is forgotten now. My daughter plays guitar and drums and that prompted me to buy a bass and try again.

Hey Guys,

My name is Mark and I started playing bass a couple of months ago. I own a five string bass and no amp Embarassed but I am learning from my friend and of course, DMAN!

Me and my friends are looking at forming a band, with me being at the bottom end of experience. We look to playing music similar to Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir and Arch Enemy. However I am willing to learn any style of music, for I feel it will only enhance my skill if I learn a wider variety.

Im 19, Living in Brisbane and looking forward to jamming with my mates Smile

I Just Read These Replies And Noticed Most People Found You On Youtube Trying To Learn How To slap and Pop.
Does Nobody Search For Hand and Tendon Excercises On Youtube.

Post  ArniVidar Sun Apr 19, 2009 5:09 pm

Hello all.

My name is Árni and I'm a 30 year old Icelander.

I had wanted to learn to play guitar for years but when my father left me his guitars a year ago or so I started playing. Found out that I loved bass more and moved to that, so here I am Smile

I found Kris quite by accident (never even though of youtube'ing for bass videos) when I was googling bass stuff, and he has helped me see that playing bass is something that us musically slow (read: Old farts Wink) people can do as well Very Happy

Hey, Im Tim and Im 18. Been playing bass for about 2 months now and Im apparently better then most people at 2 months[EDIT: Im not talking about amazing amounts, more like someone thats been playing for 3 or so months, Im so up myself that I would refer to myself as somewhat of a prodigy, sorry if that sounded like it.], so thats gotten to my head so Im sure Im not going to progress as quickly now =D
Im from Australia, Where everything is more expensive. My bass's name is Nessie cause I never fully understood how long the neck was till I played it!
Im training to be a business manager and spend most my day on the computer scrounging this forum and youtube
I found Kris/Dman via youtube, through everyone else when I was looking for beginners bass lessons cause I got sick of playing the crazy train intro for hours on end =D
Oh the funs of just starting out
I like playing Rage against the machine, RHCP[doesnt everyone] Iron maiden, Tool, Lamb of God, Metallica and I would love to play more mudvayne but I cbf tuning down to drop C =[

First post! I bought a bass last Thursday and am having a blast tring to learn loads of simple riffs for it. It was only some P-bass Fender rip off but wasn't too costly. Should be fun to learn on

First weeks of learning!
Theyre the most fun
I recommend Bulls On Parade by Rage Against The Machine.
Its got a nice feel to it, its easier, and its fairly loud in the mix of the song! =D
and if you want epic, the Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne intro XD
That was my very first riff, I like it, its awesome. I still play it XD
Very Happy

I'll definetly give those a whirl, so far I've been learning a few Pixies bass riffs because they're simple (love Pixies btw), Just like heaven by the cure and Other side by RHCP. There's a few others as well and I'm really enjoying it

And dont forget tendon excecises :O

Most people on the forum will agree with me here Razz

They seem unncessary, until your fingers hurt so much more then they have to! lol

I do mine at work all day when I get bored, but alot of people like doing it as part of a warm up before they play, I like to think instead of having to warm up, Im always HOT!!!

Okay. But seriously, check Dmans videos on excercises, itll be worth it! XD

Pixies, good choice. I like 'where is my mind' personally Smile
