Re: Harmonics
I'll try and help.
Natural Harmonics..
These can only be heard in the 5th 7th or 12th frets. If you place your pinky ( I always do it with my pinky ) on the fret to cover the strings. Don't press down. Then pluck with your right hand you should get a bell tone from it. It sounds best when you pluck and remove your left hand.
Try this out <7> = harmonic.
G||---<7>----------<5>---------<7>---||
D||---<7>----------<5>---------<7>---||
A||-5--------------------------------------||
E||---------0-1-2--3------3-2-1-0-----0-||
Artifical Harmonics.
These are played with the right hand.. You lightly touch the fret with your index finger and pluck with your ring.

Hope this helps

If your bass is set up VERY well, you can get a harmonic just about anywhere.

Re: Harmonics
Yeah I can get harmonics all over my 'wick, not that I use them that often. I really need to get down artificial harmonics but they're a bastard to do

Re: Harmonics
I've just got the naturals down and I can tap the harmonics all along the neck but I still can't do artificial harmonics

Re: Harmonics
I do a pinch harmonic like an artificial, unless I'm a retard and am oblivious to the fact that they are the same thing. That said, I pluck with my thumb and use my index finger to get the harmonic the motion looks similar to that of spinning a top.

Re: Harmonics
I could never get the hang of pinch harmonics, doesn't help being crap with a pick I suppose, without a pick I tend to rest my thumb joint on the string and pluck with my middle finger which is all wrong I know lol.
I wish I could get decent harmonics out of both of my basses but I think they need setting up a lot better than they are now.
