Speaking to a friend on facebook, she had never heard any muse songs, so I immediately got a few links, one of Matt Bellamys best falsetto's and a couple of songs.

their reply (about Matt Bellamy after watching the falsetto's):
He sounds like he's trying to be Mika?

What would your response back be? I didn't even know what to say...I could of gone round there and punched them in the face...

Muse came before Mika.
According to wikipedia, Muse started in 1994... Mika came in 2006 lol! Maybe Mika is trying to be Muse? Suspect

I think I'd be in your situation. I really wouldn't know what to say Neutral
Can't believe that person has never heard of Muse before. Some people miss out on so much, I was talking to a kid today who plays guitar, and he had never heard of a bass solo. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Seriously, he never even knew bassists have solos... some people seem to be "musically sheltered" lol!

Haha exactly, plus they're both part of completely different genres of music and have nothing to do with each other!

Folk do tend to simply stick to things they like and/or hear a lot on the radio - or there's peer pressure which tells them what to like.

A personal hate of mine is when people tell you that something is shite just because they themselves don't like it rather than accepting the fact that - yes they might not like it but it certainly ISN'T shite or crap and the other person might like it a lot.

I'd be tempted to educated them a bit and throw lots of facts at them like dates and influences (including Mika's) - who despite not really liking him has a heck of a voice (even live) and wrote a song about big women.

Lol Wut!

Mika - Freddie - totally different genres!

And as I've said in a previous post somewhere - things are not necessarily bad because you don't like them and someone else does.

Just IMHO!

He's clearly emulating his vocal style, different genres yes but you can still tell that he's a big Freddie fan

Lol!

Have to say I prefer Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girls' to Mika's 'Big Girl'.

Just had a quick google and there are claims that he has a 5 octave vocal range tho he plays it down and says it's only 3 and a half - heck of a voice either way.

To echo Akyra's sentiment - his stuff is a bit of fun but I wouldn't buy the album.

Muse however could defo find it's way onto my iPhone.

doesn't Larry Graham also reach 5 octaves?
though that's completely the other way, mostly.

Wow, at least 3 and a half octaves? That is one voice!

I've never heard him go that high, not unusually high anyway.

Highest I've heard a man go (yet) is (I look like such a fanboy...which I am) Matt Bellamy, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFgH2cVgNec&feature=related. Gives me shivers everytime.

I Met Matt Bellamy! Got a mobile phone pic with him, but it was on my old comp which died Sad

Mika=no.

Thats that sorted, lol.

I DO think he sounds like Jeff Buckley, though. MAybe a little too much (although I remember him saying he wasnt influenced by him? BIG coincedence!)

Thats in my top 5 things to do before I die... My bedroom is like a shrine to Muse.

I've read a couple of articles and I think I've seen one or two interviews where he mentions Jeff Buckley, alot of the time his influences are really obvious, The Resistance album = George Orwell's 1984

I suppose it depends upon the start and end of the spread tho even with middle C slap in the middle it's not bad.

Rob Halford of Judas Priest seems to be able to go from pretty deep to shockingly high on occasion too.
