Best Bass Brands Empty Best Bass Brands

Post  MetalJacob Fri Nov 12, 2010 4:25 am

Since Christmas is coming up soon, I plan on asking for money for a new bass. I figured I want to know a few specific basses I want to try out at guitar center before I just go in there so I don't have to try out every cool looking 5 string bass.

So basically my question is, what are the best bass brands? Which sound the best? I've been told Schecter makes great guitars, but horrible sounding basses. Is this true? And actually what I'm asking is what's a good brand of bass that actually is available around $400. So don't instantly say Music Man or Fender, those are extremely expensive.

Taking a quick look at the GC website...

For 5 strings, Ibanez, Peavey, ESP, and Dean come up at around $400, all good brands. I would also recommend trying the Schecter anyway despite reviews

Same kinda thing for 4 strings to at that price range, except you'll see a few Squiers. The Squier Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified basses are really good, I think you should try them out (don't let the Squier name put you off). There's also Epiphone, which are good I guess (again, try them, I don't like them for their necks but you might)... And there's a Epiphone Limited Edition Korina Explorer Bass which you might be interested in.

Holy crap SFG that is awesome. But I want a bass that I know is good quality and I doubt they'll have that specific bass at the guitar center by me.

I know it's good quality. I think, at least. The 4-string one is a monster when you have good, bassy strings.

^ That is a pretty sweet looking bass!

What do y'all think about getting a bass from someone on craigslist? If I were to get one I wouldn't get to go to Guitar Center and try out all the basses until I find my perfect one. My main concern is I don't want to get a bass and then go to guitar center and see a bass there that's only slightly more expensive that I like better. Is it better to make sure to get the exact perfect one? Or is ignorance truly bliss?
