Ah, this is an interesting one. The song is actually a Liquid Fool song (my band), but I did a bass only version of it. I wrote it normally, and was about to delete it, because it wasn't very interesting with just bass.
Before I did, I was playing with the effects on my Mac. One was called "Chipmunk", lol. You can guess what happened next...

you can take it how you wanna man-but its the truth imo. ive been playing for enough years to see when someone has it-and you do. its not about your technique-its about your inventivness with the bass-just like claypool.

Thankyou Accy, that's a kind thing to say!
I think I know what you mean, but not in a arrogant way! I don't only see the bass as a tool to support the low end, but also as a song writing tool that is capable of doing much more. That's what im trying to get across to people in a way.
As bass players, we are living in exciting time, aint we? It's changing all the time. Evolving, even. It's still a young instrument, and people are pushing it to new ideas everyday. All whilst keeping the low.
Anyway, thanks man. Means a lot.

Heya, buddy.
Do you mean my novel? That's finished. Just need to self-publish it.
I think you may mean my bass book, though. Well, I hit a brick wall with it. Got half way through.
The problem was how to approach theory, etc. I didn't want to make the book theory heavy, but felt I needed to mention some. I wanted to really cover ideas, and composition, but theory kept getting in the way. I just need to write it in a way that EVERYONE can understand. I will get it done...

Yea I meant your bass book with some psychology you talked about on your blog. Theory is a tough thing to learn from a book or words in general I think, thats why its awesome to learn from you since you make everything incredibly simple in your video lessons. Well, I am sure you will think of something to overcome your writers block, let me know when its published because I love to read it.

Dude. Awesomness at it's best.
Did you have a similar bass line on the full song, or did you transpose all the melody and rythm to make it sound good only on bass?
And agree totally with the above poster, your inventivness is unbelievable

Kris I think your answer my lay in the use of pop symbols. You could lay out chord function, tendencies, and direction using pop symbols and then in an insert or glossary lay out the chords and the individual note make up of each.
and let me know when you get either you novel or bass book finished and available. I'll buy both as long as you'll send them to me over the water!!

Hiya man. Yea, that is exactly as the song goes, apart from the ending which I added. The actual ending is me sitting back on simple roots, while my guitarist solos.
Nuck, that is a good idea!
