Fingerboard memorization - what and where
Every time you play anything on your instrument (be it a song, a lick, a chord progression, etc.) you have to keep in mind four things: the melody, the rhythm, the mood and the places where notes that you're gonna play are.
I would give you all a help (if you think you need it, of course) about the latter question.
I assume that you know what is an interval and all the different existing intervals. I assume that you know how it's build a scale and the relatives symbols, too.
That's said, here are two grids representing the Root with all the notes related to. I believe (but i could be wrong) that knowing what and where playing intervals could be useful when you play every kind of bassline but especially jazz bass lines.
On this first grid the Root is put on the E string:
G|-b9--|--9--|-b10-|--10-|--11-|-#11-|-12--|
D|-b6--|--6--|-b7--|--7--|--8--|-b9--|--9--|
A|-b3--|--3--|--4--|-b5--|--5--|-b6--|--6--|
E|-b7--|--7--|--R--|-b2--|--2--|-b3--|--3--|
Example with G on the root (3th fret):
G|-bA--|--A--|-bB--|--B--|--C--|-#C--|--D--|
D|-bE--|--E--|--F--|-#F--|--G--|-bA--|--A--|
A|-bB--|--B--|--C--|-bD--|--D--|-bE--|--E--|
E|--F--|-#F--|--G--|-bA--|--A--|-bB--|--B--|
On this second grid the Root is put on the A string:
G|-b6--|--6--|-b7--|--7--|--8--|-b9--|--9--|
D|-b3--|--3--|--4--|-b5--|--5--|-b6--|--6--|
A|-b7--|--7--|--R--|-b2--|--2--|-b3--|--3--|
E|--4--|-b5--|--5--|-b6--|--6--|-b7--|--7--|
And this is the example always with G on the root (10th fret):
G|-bE--|--E--|--F--|-#F--|--G--|-bA--|--A--|
D|-bB--|--B--|--C--|-bD--|--D--|-bE--|--E--|
A|--F--|-#F--|--G--|-bA--|--A--|-bB--|--B--|
E|--C--|-bD--|--D--|-bE--|--E--|--F--|-#F--|
Any question, criticism or doubt about my basic english is welcome
