The guy who said that the notes don't fit musically is wrong. The tune is based on C Lydian, and works perfectly If something sounds good, there's usually theory behind it But obviously what Dman said is completely true too

I did notice that, but didn't want to mention it, as it would take away from the ethos behind the blog post.

one phrase to sum up theory in most (if not ALL) creative/ musical/ art forms weather it be photography or playing an instrument:

Rules are made to be broken.

So I say learn them and use them some/ most of the time, but learn when it suits to break those rules.

Did the complaining guy try to imply that chords like C9 didn't exist?
(How does it sound if you play all the notes in the same octave.)

Theory shouldn't be overlooked certainly, its key to efficiently communicating with other musicians. But then don't be afraid to brake the rules, theory is a guide.
