Bombtrack Cover
Ive always had some trouble with this song, its not so much the speed of the notes but more the fact that I'm pretty sure I should mute every note after about... and 8th note. I just simply cant figure out how to work my hand into muting and playing the notes as fast as they are supposed to be played and the whole riff becomes muddy.
Any suggestions

Re: Bombtrack Cover
Are you talking about the intro?
And which way do you play it? With the open strings, or all fretted notes (apart from the open E)?

That intro!
Oh man. The trouble that one caused me. with the opens and the 2's, and would be way easier without that 3rd on the E in there, for finger movements.
tbh, I never looked at the rest of the song, just that awesome introsolo
If thats what you mean. I dont understand about the mutes?
Which implies Im prolly wrong that its the intro, but still.

Oh my gosh!That insane intro!Still don't have it down perfectly after half month of playing it!
Commerford is a psycho!
My right hand always gets confused,wether to play the D or the G string.
But smaz talks about two versions,i haven't found anything else except the one drakon mentioned.

Re: Bombtrack Cover
Im talking just about the intro
Smaz is talking about the fact that you can hit a 5th fret on D string or open G
Im just stating that the open E note that you fret at the very begginng of the song always seems to just ring through, along with all the other notes, and make it sound less...defined and more muddy.

Re: Bombtrack Cover
When I have to mute notes I tend to use my ring finger on my right hand, I just find it quicker and easier

Re: Bombtrack Cover
How are you playing this? It's pretty easy just to use the second fret on all the a and d strings and the 3rd on the e. If your doing it this way you shouldn't be having a muting problem.

Re: Bombtrack Cover
when i play its always the e-string that rings out
maybe using ur thumb to mute the e-string might work

Re: Bombtrack Cover
There's two main ways the intro can be played - one mainly using open strings, the other mainly fretted notes. I prefer the fretted note way; it sounds a lot clearer, as you don't have open strings ringing whilst playing other notes.
Most common & easiest way:
G||-------------------------------0---||
D||----2-0---0----------2-0---0-2-----||
A||--------2---2-0----------2---------||
E||--0-------------3--0---------------||
However, this way reduces the open string ringing & muddy sound, as your finger will naturally come to rest on the string below, therefore muting the open E at the start & hopefully solving your problem It is however a big stretch from the 7th to 3rd fret.... But it's an alternative
G||-----------------------------------||
D||-------------------------------5---||
A||----7-5---5----------7-5---5-7-----||
E||--0-----7---7-5-3--0-----7---------||
If you stick with the first way of open strings, (as suggested by maxf) try dropping your thumb from the pickup/whatever you rest it on to the open E to mute it. Or if you play with a pick.... then... I'll have to try it & think of a solution
Hope this helps in some way? If not, or any more questions, just ask

Re: Bombtrack Cover
I rest my ring finger on my right hand on any open E's i do that i want to stop ringing, as i go down to the higher strings.
It just came naturally

Re: Bombtrack Cover
I can't for the life of me play the intro with good technique - I actually only use my index for the song.. I use my right hand thumb to mute all the notes below what I'm playing (when I play that open G string, my thumb is literally on all other strings.)
I don't have a problem with keeping it clean because I'm really good with using my thumb to mute.. just I can't play it that long because my index finger hurts.. That and I look really sloppy.
