Need nerd help from nerd people.
So I'm writing this bass-only song (because why not), and I'm sort of stuck.
I currently have a part that goes Dm6 - C6 - Bm6 - A, and I need to find a good way to get from there, via some fancy shmancy chordy shit to Em7, and I can't find anything that I like.
Help?

Try something like Asus4, then to Em7. The Asus4 will give you the D and E you need for Em7 and then you can just go down one step for the G and add a B. Sounds good on piano, but I'm not sure what the style of your song is and I don't know what you're playing on the bass. If this isn't long enough, you could go Asus4-Em7-Gmaj7-Em7, which sounds pretty cool in my opinion.

That could be pretty cool, especially with how I end the part before the one I posted with An Asus4, so it could be good, though I'm not sure.
I'll try it!

I feel the confusion seeping into my very bones. I have just lost all hope for learning musical theory, ever.

Hearing you say that actually gives me hope considering I understood it.

If you play it on a piano, it's a very logical progression. Theory had jack shit to do with it.

So I ended up playing the A as a power chord on the D and G strings, then adding an F (8th fret on A) to make it an Fmaj7, then going down to Dmaj7 and Cmaj7 with both chords and a line (ooooh, fancy shit) that makes it end with a C6, from which I just lift my finger from the C, making it an A-powerchord, which goes to an Asus4.
I got a bit carried away, but I think it works fairly okayishly.

I though you were in a punk band, what the hell are you using more than three chords for?

Being an artsy motherfucker with long hair, bitches love it when you're an artsy motherfucker with long hair.
Don't worry, I've been writing up a bunch of two/three-chord songs with yelling too, just in case.
