I got first one on christmas, too. It was an old Ibanez Gio. Christmas of 1997 I believe.
I've been playing for about three years less than dman and he's worlds better than me. So don't let his awesomeness discourage you.
Kalamazoo isn't all that hard. Just start off real slow and work your way up.

It involves flamenco playing and fast slap and popping which seems a world away from me at the moment. I'll get there eventually though! Damn my retarded fingers

They're not retarded, they're just ignorant. Teach them. Just learn the main line. It's just a downstroke on 15dg then 3-5 on the E

Mine? 2 - 3 months ago And I've been playing on & off since 2004, but started again 'properly' in 2006ish? So 3 years for me...
Playing at the blues club jam night, with a couple of drummers, I really clicked with one of them. I got to spend a lot of time playing, instead of the usual 3 songs before swapping round & afterwards, I don't know what it was, I was the best bassist in the damn world. Well, it felt like it anyway... I could just pick up my bass & hit that slap groove, learn things quickly, was really into it. Good times

I love that feeling. When you just loose yourself and you don't care about anything else. I've listened to recordings of some shows I've done and was like "WOW, I played that?!" It's like you don't even realize your doing it. That's the meaning of true love my friends. I hope you all get to experience it once in your lives, if you haven't already. It's truly religious.

Re: its finally clicked
yea i love those moments when I just let loose and I seem to just play perfectly. Sometimes it works the other way and I can't seem to get to the level I want to, usually happens when I'm tired or haven't warmed up enough. My playing suffers if I don't warm up.

Mine never comes while I'm playing, weird I know. Look at these examples.
-Intro to Bombtrack. I could not get it for the life of me, not even close. I put my bass down and next day as soon as I picked up my bass I was playing it very well.
-Palm muting on a guitar. I just couldn't understand how to hold my hand. I spent an hour trying and no luck. Put the guitar down and next day the first thing I did was palm muting.. again I was able to do it.
There's alot more, but that's just the idea.. Something always clicks in my mind whenever I'm not playing. I believe this is why I've made my routine of playing very broken up. I play for about 30 mins when I get home and about an hour around 5pm then another 30 before I go to sleep.. or something like that - I don't plan it.
