How do you do pull offs properly

I want to learn californication but when I do hammer ons when you pull off do you literally just take that finger back off or is there more to it than that because I have been told you got to sort of pull down as you take it off.

Im confused about how you do them properly does anyone have some advice please.

I personally find that when I do pull-offs, I either bend the string somewhat as I'm releasing, making a kind of second strike, or I'm doing it quickly enough to not make the string lose much of it's vibration.

...sadly, it's easier to show than it is to explain, hopefully someone comes along that's better at explaining it than me.

thats what i do, but i wouldnt take advice from me unless someone else says the same.

I find that if you pull the string down a little bit you get a better sound than jut taking your finger off.

I also have the same problem with the same song.

I strongly believe we should have a "Californication pulloff dummy video". hehe
