Hello guys
ok i got a quick question,
i got a MTD 5 string bass, but i m not a 5 string player, i just cant, i dont use the extra string and it really isnt handy to practise slapping.

now some1 offered me a converted Fender Jazz Bass Mexican
with converted i mean, other pick up elements. ( 1 jazz 1 pressicion)
the basses have the same market value (as 2nd hand)
his is 600€ mine is 630€
so i dont doubt about that
the only thing is the fender is about 5 years old, mine is about 2-3 now.
does this have any effect on the quality?

but is the Fender a good choice?
i like the color and it is fender...
i can test the bass when ever i want, so can he with my bass

so let me know Very Happy

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. You can't go wrong with Fender.

2nd hand value of an original Mexican Jazz is around £250 to £300 in the UK. I sold one recently with upgraded pickups for £360 with a hardcase so I dont think a straight swop would be a good idea. I would ask for the jazz bass and at least £150 for that deal to be of any benefit.

Even 2nd hand the MTD heir has a higher value than a 2nd hand Mex Jazz. And in the 2nd hand guitar market a guitar that has lots of mods doesnt add much monetary value.

I have an £80 SX five string Jazz bass with upgraded pickups and an Audere preamp that I fitted yet I would struggle to get £60 for it. it is one of the best sounding/playing bass that I own and I will probably never sell it but if i did I would take out the preamp and pickups and put some chaep crappy strings on it and use those parts for another project.

Ignore my post. I didn't see the mexican part. The American one would be a straight up or close.

No. Not a mexican one. Just don't. Try and see if you can get your hands on an american one, but not mexican model.

The mexican ones are NOTHING compared to the american ones. I would never use a mexican Fender, let alone buy one.

Depends on what kind of Mexican it is. If it's just a regular Mexican Standard then it's nothing special then there's nothing special about it. There's some really, really excellent Mexican Fenders (*cough* Classic series *cough*) out there! But yeah, if it's a Mexican Standard then... meh.
