Hey im David (obviously) and ive been playing about 4 months now i think and so far i have made three bass only songs (no lyrics)

Ill just post any new ones i make here and i would love feedback, advice, and dont be afraid to tell me you dont like it.

Rock with a bit of metal (no clue what it would be called):

a sad-ish piece:

A random Improv:

Nt bad I only could see the last two. The sadish one sounded a tad rushed to me. The improve had a good intro. Keep on the practicing and look forward to hearing some more

That's pretty damn good for four months worth. I think you need to work on your slap technique. That posture doesn't seem to suit your style.

Im not sure i completelt "grasp" the slap and pop thing. When I slap the a,d, or g string i hit the strings before it and when I pop i put my whole finger "pad" under the string and pull it up. Its that how your supposed to pop it because it seems to slow me down?

Try not to pop with the whole fingertip. You want to use as little of your fingertip as possible while at the same time getting a nice popping sound. Also depending on your strap hight it might be worth changing the angle of your thumb while slapping... How high/low do you normally wear your bass? (it seems low in the first video then high in the last Razz)

And also try keeping your thumb parallel to the string with your elbow lining up with the bridge.

Well I did have my strap lower but i read somewhere its better to have it higher up.

Yeah if you wear your bass higher definitely use the parallel thumb technique, as DTL said. When doing this, try to pop using a small area just to the side of your fingertip. Then keep practising and it'll be easy Smile

I can only slap properly when I have my bass fairly high, when I play finger style I just alter where the bass sits on my shoulder so its more like an upright ;o
