Hey dude Very Happy
What's your budget? Then we'll be able to have a beter idea of what to suggest Smile

I have an Ibanez (Soundgear GIO) GSR 200. Brilliant bass for the money (£189), I love it. Not the best bass I've played, but IMO it's worth every penny Very Happy

BUT I think you should go to a good guitar shop and try a load of basses. Even ones that are out of your price range. From what I gather feel of instruments (i.e. neck profile, etc) stay the same or at least similar for basses from the same company so chances are if you loved a Fender in the store you might end up liking a Squire off the internet. If you fall in love with a bass in the store... buy it Smile

EDIT: Lol Tom you beat me to it on mah last point XD

Yea, I used a GIO as well.

I'll tell ya now, I REALLY like Ibanez's, I really do. Infact, i'd go as far as saying that I wish i had brought a top end Ibanez, rather than my Musicman Stingray!

Theres little choice when it comes to a cheap Ibanez..
A brand new GSR200 or a second hand SR300 / SRX300
There are a couple of older models that would be pretty cheap but they're harder to find.

Definitely get an Ibanez though, worth every penny Very Happy

Absolutely right. I'm a starter as well but wanted to start with a 5-string-bass. I also went for an Ibanez bass and bought the SR-305. It's simply an amazing instrument! Very well built, it's got a great variety of sound-possibilities (due to the active components and the 3-way-eq) and by the way: it looks awesome^^

Go for this one or some other Ibanez-basses. YOU CANNOT MAKE A MISTAKE BUYING THEM!!!!!

The SR500 is a good one or SR300. Check the GSR200 for nut problems, badly made or fitted, causes buzzing or if they bothered to put glue on the control knobs as they will just come off when used. To test them just gently pull them away from the guitar.

the lower end ibanez's are pretty good, my bro got one which i borrowed, which got me into bass after being a really bad guitarist (my fingers are to big lol) now i have an ibanez ATK, which is an amazing bass. ive got a squier vintage modified fretless jazz bass too, so check out the new squiers, they really improoved recently, the classic vibe and vintage modified especialy. so try out some squires, and ibanez's, see which feels better for you

i agree with what everybody else is sayin aboot trying whats best for you and what not. my first investment was an ibanez edb600 and couldn't be happier, i think the necks on ibanezs are one of their better qualities..from my experience it seems they're easier to play

my first was an older gio. I loved it. I now have an Ibanez AEB-10 acoustic. I love it. I always wanted an Ibanez EDA 900 or 905. Would love it.

Great topic, I'm looking at an Ibanez bass myself.

I have a jackson but the neck is way too thick for my liking. Nice tone though.

WHAT IBANEZ BASS TO BUY Empty Re: WHAT IBANEZ BASS TO BUY

Post  frozen.morale Sun Jun 21, 2009 6:08 pm

I purchased an Ibanez GIO for $200 US. I was going to buy some other cherry guitar for $100 (used) but it hadn't been in for 30 days so I got the Ibanez instead. I have to say fate intervened when I purchased the Ibanez instead because from what I hear and can tell from playing the bass, its a great pick for the price.

And anyways, if you can't even afford the cheapest IBanez (ow?) look for used, Ibanez or not. When your starting it doesn't matter if it sounds or looks like shit, as long as it plays because chances are you won't be playing with other people for a little while anyways and you can upgrade in the future.

Long story short, I agree with everyone else. Ibanez.
