hey guys here i m again with my stupid beginner questions XD
so here i go:
i want to play a song with in it

e-- 5-R-5-R-5-R-5-R
it is an eight note thing XD
and the r is rest
so my question
how i play this? how in heavens name do i rest a note and then play a fret :S

Play 5th fret, mute the string without plucking, play 5th fret.

Easy as that.

well a rest is a break in playing so you could play:


E ---5----5----5----5----5... and so on OR

E ---5~---5~---5~... and so on.

choosing between the two would depend on what style you are playing.

If the line is quite fast, to rest between the notes - lift your left hand slightly off the fret, stopping the sound. Then you can easily press down again for the next note, without too much effort Smile

Here is a short explanation/video (right click & save as for the video) on how to do it using your right hand fingers to mute the string after playing it with the other:
