Post  DavidM96 Sat Jan 29, 2011 1:57 am

Alright, im in a band now and were looking for songs to play that we all like, some genres we like are metal, punk (me), indie rock, and some classic rock. Suggestions are appreciated, also id appreciate some general help on getting the band going.

Please and Thanks in advance!

I found this article awhile back, very useful:

http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-start-a-band

I'm pretty sure Dman has a similar blog post somewhere.

As for songs to learn with a mix of those genres, I'd say Pixies, Melvins, Refused, Dinosaur Jr, Incubus (Early Stuff), Glassjaw, At The Drive In. etc

Pretty much 80s/90s Indie, Post Hardcore and Hard Rock. Smile

thanks for the bands and link will, does anyone have some more bands. The guitarist likes music like avenged sevenfold and some stuff like that but thats hard to play for all of us, and theres only one guitarist.... So any bands along the lines of that would be appreciated.

It might not really your genre but maybe some of the Punk classics, The Damned, Saints, Lurkers, UK Subs, that sort of thing, will be both fun and quite easy to play. and obviously a million times better than the modern day equivalent of punk, but I'm a purist.

I have highlighted the words I agree with in bold.

I'll recommend a load of songs, take 'em or leave 'em Very Happy

Good song that.

Even if you don't play this as a band, learn it anyway. The bass is nice.

...Same with that one

Nice indie-ish tune

Yes, The Final Countdown wasn't Europe's only song (wasn't their best either)

Classic.

Even more classic.

A bit too classic.

Or something along the lines of:

and something like Hendrix' Hey Joe or Purple Haze might be good too, and maybe some early Black Sabbath, Paranoid, N.I.B?
