Re: New Strings
What kind of Bass is it? What kind of sound are you looking for? I think there is a whole thread on this somewhere though.

Re: New Strings
I'm using an Alba right now, I've broken two strings the E and the G . . . Somehow :S in my band we play hard rock and metal so something really that has a good sound for metal because the spare strings that I have sound really tinny.

Re: New Strings
What tuning do you use?
What sound are you after?
Do you use a pick?
I play a fair bit of metal, but I go with a more deep round heavy sound as opposed to the usual high attack and mids of a lot of metal bands these days...

Re: New Strings
I use my fingers, I play a lot of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Deep Purple and Rainbow if that helps?

Re: New Strings
I'd go with a set of DR Hi-Beams.
Don't forget to buy some methylated spirits to clean your strings, instead of replacing them, unless they snap or get rusty of course.. saves a load of money.

Re: New Strings
I reccomend Elites! The Stadium series in particular if you're playing metal, they're steel so are nice and bright

Re: New Strings
Rotosound, for that crunchy sound Cheap strings, yet great sound. I love 'em!
45 - 105s would suit you, regardless of the brand

Re: New Strings
Do any of you know if Warwick is a good string make? Because I know they make pretty decent bass guitars.

Re: New Strings
I've been thinking of getting some DR black beauties everyone seems to be raving over them

I've got some DR Black Beauties on my Precision.... I wouldn't get them again, actually. They feel like plastic because of the coating, and don't really have anything specialy about them in the way of sound. I'd like to try some of their normal strings, but I personally wouldn't recommend them Don't get me wrong, they're nice - but not worth the money!

Thanks for the heads up, I must say that the price has been making me dubious. I've just got a Warwick and I want a decent set of strings to throw on it

Re: New Strings
I've heard some pretty good reviews about the Warwick Black Label strings, I'll probably give them a go when I get my rockbass.

Re: New Strings
Dunlops have also been getting good reviews as a replacement for DR or d'ardio (sp?) strings, they should be cheaper as well.

Re: New Strings
I just picked up some elixir nanoweb mediums. Haven't put them on yet but they have some coating on them that is supposed to make them last longer.
