Favorite bassist

i would say my favorite bassists are Bootsy Collins he has sick funk lines i also like Sting and John Entwistle oh and Flea

got to be flea. Even though i've essentially moved on and started listening alot more to other bass players marcus miller/larry graham etc.....
Flea is what got me into bass and i just love listening to his bass lines! Especially live!!!

totally agree with dan, Flea's the reason I wanted to play bass and he's the ones who's sick basslines make my insides jingle everytime I listen to em.

Ah, my favorite? hmmmmm, I would say Marcus Miller. He is an incredible bassist and can play a whole array of other instruments and has made some very awesome Jazz songs.

Paul Chambers. That man could play. His discography is completely amazing.

For me it depends on the genre of music. My favorites are Geddy Lee, Louis Johnson and Ryan Martinie. My guilty pleasure would be Fieldy.

John Paul Jones would probably be my main influence. Although I am a big fan of John Entwistle, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Tony Levin and others. But if I was to pick a favourite regardless of technical ability it would be John Paul Jones, the man is such a solid bassist.

Marcus Miller for me, his tone & technique are awesome, I love the way he doesn't over do things & writes some mean jazz tunes. Apart from him, we've got John Paul Jones, or MarloweDK

I know there are a lot of great bassist's out there. It's a hard choice just to pick one as a favorite.

I'll prolly get flamed for this. While Wooten is great & techincally awesome... Stuff like this is just noise.

But for me its not just about the bassist. I see a bass as a percussion instrument. And to see peeps like Mike Wengren (Drums) & Steve Kmak (Bass) from Disturbed play so tight, is what I like!

Also Jason Newsted's 16th note triplets from One are sexeh!

i'd have to say cliff butron is the person that got me to pick up a bass R.I.P
but dmanlamius kept me playing it

I'm inspired by Cliff Burton(Metallica died with him), John Myung, Steve Digiorgio(fretless metal bassist, heck yeah), Krist Novoselic, and John Paul Jones, among others.

I could never make a comprehensive list as I kinda pick stuff up from everyhere.

EDIT: Also, everyone needs to know about Beaver Felton. A phenomenal player that...nobody's ever heard of. Quite an injustice.

i'd say that my fav bassist is jaco, he just was amazing how he played different things on a bass.

Billy Sheehan, Cliff burton, Les Claypool, Flea, etc the usual.
