which fingers? Empty which fingers?

Post  qiix Fri May 28, 2010 12:43 pm

hey hey troopers Smile qiix 'ere

i've just been having a go at doing a scale, as per dmans lesson tree instructions (which i'm lovin' btw)!

i dooo have a few questions tho...

first off - how the hell do i get my fingers to span two frets? for the 'whole' notes.
i don't have particularly small hands (i'm 6') but getting from D(a5) to E(d2)- and in reverse of course - is not easy!

also, while thinking about the whole Scale-thang... there's a helpful lil pic of the fretboard with notes overlaid (the major scale explained)
and it shows that A open, E5, G2 and D7 as all being the note *A*

i get the fact that A open and E5 are the same but are G2 and D7 the same as each other? and are they an octave higher than A0 and E5?

and if so, how am i meant to know that? or is it just a learning curve? or is my guitar in severe need of tuning lol.

soz for being like totalllly a noob but, well, i AM a noob!

I feel like I say this a lot, but it holds true for a lot of things. Over time, your hands will stretch out and getting to those notes will be effortless. You'll still have to move a little, but not nearly as much.

You can try "jumping" your hands around a bit. Like moving your whole hand to hit each note instead of stretching. That's what I did before I moved to short scale.

Short scale is cheating.

I hate saying it time and time again. but DTL speaks the truth, I couldnt do it. but now its no problem XD

G2 is the octve of the open A, D7 is the octave of E5. and theyre all A. Does this make sense now? You work down the bass so your first finger would be on E5 and your pinky on D7. I hope this helps :S

Now, now. No need getting upset. I can only play with three fingers on my fret hand. If I can make the stretch, you can. Other than that, I was just playin'

akyra - do you hate repeating yourself or agreeing with dtl? Razz

thnx for the feedback (sic) - if G2 is the octave of AO and D7 is the octave of E5 - i kinda thought AO and D5 were the same note :/
meaning that G2 and D7 would also be the same note?

pfft... early days.

oh yeah akyra... i had a looksee at your site and v v impressed! i think if i was a young fella i'd be doing just that. i love animation Smile
i'm kinda learning flash atm... i know its not rendering n stuff but its sorta same-ballpark thing Razz i started learning flash yearrrrrs ago
but there was no easy access instruction like there is nowadays... things like youtube etc etc didn't even exist then lol.

god i'm old -.- i remember reheating food over a saucepan of boiling water! pre microwave days! can you imagine?
and to phone someone you needed tuppence in your pocket!

heya turbo Smile

i don't remember gopher at all soz mate.

i had a few early comps like c64, zx etc, then i moved on to the new kid on the block... the Amiga! i don't even know if browsers existed then, i was quite happy playing Lemmings Smile. the magazines at the time used to run bets on whether the amiga or the new-fangled windows sytem would be the 'standard' in the future (which is, currently, now, lol).

the one thing i do remember about my early internet days was joining a msn chat room (back in the day, lol god bless gold hammers Razz) and talking to some random dude that happened to be
in the same room and discovering (bearing in mind that is was the WORLD WIDE web) that he lived, not only in the same town as me, but just down the road!

sheesh. this has made me realise that i'm actually IN THE FUTURE!!! swoot!

I also started with C64.
Back then when I first used chat, I think MSN didn't have chat service.
Too bad I can't recall the chat server back then, but I guess it was somehow connected to
international university world (I was studying in Technical University of Tampere).
