I play some reggae...i always hear never change your strings...i have used a sock or scarf to help "dull" the sound a little...i like the way that sounds and i can still change out my strings when i need too and play other types of music. Do you have any tips?

I used to incorporate a lot of reggae into my jam-band projects. I'm not sure of your experience level, but octaves are an enormous part of playing in this genre. I'm no expert at reggae by a long-shot, but I've used it in the past. So if I think of anything else I'll post again.

5 string Jazz bass with D'addario Chromes is a good start
Dont be afraid to use the B-String if you have one.
Listen to lots of Aston Barrett and Robbie Shakespeare
Relaxation is a must....

Relaxation is a given for a bass player.

I've never really payed much attention to reggae until now really. Would you mind recommending some great reggae players/bands? I think its another music genre I could dig.

The editing in that video is beyond shocking...
I was looking into some reggae tabs recently. Was gonna give it a bash lol. Which songs do you suggest for beginners?

A great number of reggae basslines are just arpeggios of major and minor chords

Another tip, for most downbeat roots style reggae learn the Minor Pentatonic scale as many reggae basslines can be found within this scale pattern.
But a word of warning do not limit yourself to this scale as i did for a while - learn as many scales as you can
Hope this helps

Twinkle Twinkle little star is a good start --- LOL jk
There are too many to list, my advice to find some songs with very limited chord progressions at first just to get the timing feel of reggae. Once you have the feel then go on to complex songs.
Listen to the drummer.
As it is the most available start with some of Bob Marleys music Stir it up, Heathen(2nd favourite), Forever loving Jah (my favourite bassline).

We play some reggae in the band. We have two numbers; one is from Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger - Walk, but don't look back.
The other has a reggae(ish) sound; if I can remember the song ... we started practicing it Friday and it sounded like reggae. *flipping through pages* Jason Marz, I'm yours ...
Ohhh, just listening it on youtube; yub yub definitely reggae
So uh yeah, I do play reggae.
